Sustainability
There is an inherent sustainability baked into the Métier ethos of creating products that are intended to last a lifetime. Eliminating excess waste and using environmentally conscious materials is central to how we design and produce our collections. Our design philosophy has always been to perfect timeless pieces rather than chasing fleeting trends. We use only the finest materials that will endure and improve with age – and, unlike industrial leather, ourmaterials come from sources with the highest possible ethical standards.
To help reduce waste during production, we participate in a special bio-leather programme. Gathering what would normally be thrown away, we collect our leather offcuts and turn them into bio-fertiliser. The majority of our leather is naturally tanned using ingredients, such as chestnut and mimosa extract, that allow them to be part of the bio-based leather programme.
Another project involves upcycling waste from apple juice production to create our signature Apple Leather. Partnering with an apple juice producer in South Tyrol, Italy, we collect cores, rinds and seeds and press them with recycled polyester and cotton to create a sustainable vegan alternative to leather.
We continue to explore ways to improve and to take a responsible approach in everything that we do.
