Introducing Apple Leather
Taken from upcycled apple waste (such as the core and peel) from apple juice production in South Tyrol, Italy, these leftovers are ground and pressed with recycled cotton and polyester to create our Apple Leather. The end result is soft and supple, a beautiful plant-based alternative that does not compromise on quality.
Plant-based leathers are an incredibly important innovation in the vegan leather sector. They offer a much more sustainable alternative to the vegan leather options made from polyurethane that have been on the market for years. Apple Leather, for example, substitutes polyurethane with the apple waste and recycled materials which means every kilogram of apple residuals means 5,28kg of CO₂ saved. Additionally, it provides the means to recycle materials such as cotton and polyester to create the end product.
“The innovation of plant-based leather made from materials such as apple, mushroom, cactus and even pineapple is incredibly exciting for our industry. It offers designers an alternative to traditional vegan leather that is not only more sustainable, but also does not require clients to compromise on the look and feel of the final product. It’s a beautiful compliment to the rest of our range and offers our clients options based on their personal preferences. I believe this sector will continue to evolve and am watching closely to stay at the forefront of what’s possible.”
