Design Notes: Sahara Woven
23 June 2022
How It's Made
Sahara Woven is a state-of-the-art woven fabric that looks incredibly natural and elegant while being ultra-resistant to scratches and heavy use. Extraordinarily soft to the touch, it also bears a subtle shine.
Sahara Woven is made on artisanal looms in Tuscany and drum dyed like leather in cuts of 15 metres and multiples. Elegant highs and lows of the colour throughout the fabric add to its richness and artisanal quality.
The Inspiration
“I draw a lot of inspiration from mid-century interior design and in particular, the work of Charlotte Perriand. I specifically loved when she applied influences from her travels to Vietnam and Japan by infusing rattan and weaving into her decidedly architectural, functional designs. This juxtaposition of organic materials and strong architectural shapes really speaks to me. Our woven fabric is an homage to this. I especially love it trimmed with our Buffalo Cacao, a rich brown leather that punctuates the richness of the weaving.”
“I love traditional basket weaving and wanted to create a material that was inspired by this while applying it in a way that is distinctly luxurious and seasonless. The basket bag is always so perfect for summer and I wanted to create something that transcends beyond that.”
